In this action-packed mini-camp, students will dive into the growing opportunities in the field of aviation maintenance. During this two-day immersive experience, they'll explore all the labs within the Lumley Aviation Center. Check out the hanger packed with a fleet of college-owned aircraft. And learn what it takes to earn a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate.

Academics

Aviation Workforce Success Project (AWSP)

Our nation faces critical projected shortages of skilled aviation maintenance professionals. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a faster than average job growth for aircraft technicians of five percent from 2019 to 2029.* The Aviation Technician Education Council (ATEC) estimates a need for more than 10,000 mechanics annually to meet national market demand.** Penn College was awarded an Aviation Workforce Development Grant of $214,500 from the FAA to help bolster the numbers of individuals entering these rewarding careers.

Friday’s “Centre County Report” featured a story on Penn College’s Transportation Scholars program. The weekly broadcast -- produced by students in the capstone broadcast journalism course in the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State – included an interview with Bradley M. Webb, dean of engineering technologies.

Penn College receives NSF grant to aid transportation workforce

Pennsylvania College of Technology is the recipient of a nearly $1.5 million federal grant to support students majoring in a transportation-related field. The National Science Foundation awarded $1,498,465 (grant No. 2221107) as part of its S-STEM program, which funds scholarships for academically talented low-income students.

Business jet makes inspiring sojourn to Aviation Center

More than 90 aviation students experienced a Gulfstream G280 business jet last week, thanks to an alumnus and his employer: Constellation Brands Inc. Patrick Herring, who received an aviation maintenance technician certificate from the college in 2000, arranged for the twin-engine jet to travel from Rochester, New York, to the Lumley Aviation Center.
