The Penn College Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), Paramedic, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) programs strive to provide the healthcare industry with skilled workers that meet vital needs. Training is also available in medical billing and coding, medical terminology, Advanced Cardiac and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (ACLS & PALS) and many other customizable healthcare topics. Penn College is committed to continuing our tradition of training exceptional Paramedics, which began with the original Williamsport Hospital Program. As we continue to assess the needs of our industry partners, the financial burdens placed on students, and the needs of our communities; we have realized it is time to make a change.
The Paramedic Program at Penn College is a 1-year certificate program offered through Workforce Development. This reduces the length of time to complete the program and better aligns with the needs of our industry partners and the communities they serve.
The Paramedic Program is currently enrolling students for the January 2025 cohort, with expected graduation in December 2025. Students who are not yet Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) will need to obtain their certification before entry. EMT certification may be obtained through Workforce Development in the Spring or Fall semesters or at other locations offering the course.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) play a vital role in delivering urgent medical care and transporting critically ill or injured individuals outside of hospital settings. They possess the fundamental knowledge and abilities required to stabilize patients and ensure their safe transfer, handling situations that span from routine medical transports to life-threatening emergencies. Serving as a crucial connection between emergency sites and the healthcare network, EMTs contribute significantly to the continuum of care for those in need. This course will meet the National EMS Education Standards and Instructional Guidelines for Emergency Medical Technician and prepare the participant for National Registry cognitive and psychomotor examinations at the EMT level. Total instruction time: 50 hours of video-based lecture plus 100 hours of practical sessions.

The EMT Pre-Apprenticeship program will prepare participants to become industry-ready personnel for career and volunteer EMS agencies, as well as the opportunity to work in the hospital for some health systems. The program incorporates a flipped-model EMT program, the American Heart Association Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) program, and the NAEMT & American College of Surgeons' Prehospital Trauma Life Support Program (hybrid).
Penn College is proud to present this innovative course blending the fundamentals of Prehospital care, with content that prepares the Prehospital clinician to function in the critical care transport environment. Immersive online content provides the foundational knowledge, which is expanded through 48 hours of lab time serving to learn new skills, refresh old skills, and perfect assessment techniques. Specific content and skills explored in this course include:
Currently certified Prehospital Participants will gain a total of 80 hours of continuing education credits. Paramedics can utilize this course to renew their National Registry certification; RN’s will be prepared to challenge the NREMT exam at the paramedic level. Providers will also be prepared to attempt the FP-C, CFRN, and/or CCP-C exams. Applicants must hold a current, unrestricted Pennsylvania RN licensure or Pennsylvania Department of health paramedic certification, as well as ACLS and PALS certification, throughout the course. Participants will have clinical time scheduled outside of our regularly scheduled class time, based upon their availability. Registration is limited to a total of 20 students. The course cost is $1800 per student, including textbooks and PHTLS certification.

Thanks to the new Pathways Scholarship, graduates of the LPN Workforce Development training program who earned their LPN license, are now eligible for $1,500 annually towards their Nursing, LPN to RN associate’s degree at Penn College. This assistance, which can be renewed annually, coupled with transfer credits from your Workforce Development training will put you even closer to your career goals.
