Adding a Course

A student may add a course during the first two weeks of a 16-week semester, prorated for short-term courses. Signatures of the advisor and the student are required during the first week; during the second week, the instructor's approval is also required. The academic school dean or designee must approve all course additions after the second week of the semester.

Dropping a Course

A student may drop a nondevelopmental course up to the twenty percent period (or the third week of a 16-week course). The dropped course will be deleted from the student's schedule and will not appear on the official transcript. Refunds for dropped courses will be applied according to College policy and federal regulations. The signatures of both the student and advisor are required unless the student is subject to administrative removal.

If dropping a course changes a student's enrollment status (from full-time to half-time, for example), state and federal financial aid may be reduced. Dropping a course may also impact financial aid satisfactory academic progress.

Drop/Add Forms are available on the Registrar's site on the myPCT Portal (network username and password required).

Information about developmental courses is available on the Placement Testing and Developmental Coursework page.

Withdrawing from a Course

A student may withdraw from a nondevelopmental course from the twenty percent period (or third week of a 16-week course) through the eighty percent period (or the thirteenth week of a 16-week course) of the regular semester. The course will remain part of the student's schedule and will appear on the official transcript, with the assigned grade of 'W.' There are no grade points or credits awarded for a class from which a student has withdrawn.

After the withdrawal date (eighty percent period) to the last day of the course, students are not permitted to withdraw from a class. Exceptions may be granted only with the recommendation of the instructor and the approval of the Chief Academic Officer or his/her designee.
