SGA Silent Auction kicks off at noon Friday

The annual Student Government Association Silent Auction kicks off Friday, April 19, at noon.

Items up for bid can be viewed in the Campus Center Lobby, but bids must be placed online. To register, text sga2024 to 243725.

Around 30 items – from baskets to gift certificates and hand-crafted items to experiences – have been donated by supporters across the Penn College and Greater Williamsport community to benefit the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Bidding will close at 4 p.m.

In 2007, SGA created the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship to help students succeed, and at the same time encourage student leadership. Due to the association’s fundraising success, it is currently able to award $1,200 scholarships to three students annually. SGA’s goal is to continue to increase the endowed scholarship fund, with a commitment to providing even larger annual scholarships to students.

The selection criteria for the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship encourages student leadership by requiring applicants to demonstrate strong determination to continuing the legacy of student leadership at Penn College. Preference is given to students who have demonstrated previous leadership and volunteer service not only at Penn College but in surrounding communities. Applicants must be full-time students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who have at least one academic year remaining in their studies.

The annual auction is SGA’s signature event to raise funds for the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship.

The Student Government Association represents students in all degree programs and the special interest areas. SGA represents students’ voices to Penn College administration, faculty and staff. The association collaborates with administration to support and fund social and academic activities sponsored by Penn College student organizations. SGA provides a venue for communication and is committed to the benefit of students. Representatives encourage students to get involved by attending meetings, bringing up issues and topics, and participating in discussions.

Students can take advantage of speaking with representatives, participating in events, serving on committees or becoming a senator to gain leadership skills, become acquainted with administration, and work with fellow students to make for a better Penn College experience. Officers are elected to SGA each year for an academic year term.
