Penn College recognizes the following student grade levels based on total graduation credits achieved and the intended length of the academic curriculum.

For undergraduate majors that are less than or equal to one year in length, such as competency credentials and certain certificate majors, enrolled students are considered to be at the freshman level for the duration of the curriculum.

For undergraduate majors that are more than one year and less than four years in length, such as certain certificate majors and associate degree majors, student grade levels are determined as follows:

  • Freshman – Fewer than 30 completed undergraduate credits
  • Sophomore – 30 or more completed undergraduate credits

For bachelor-degree majors, student grades levels are determined as follows:

  • Freshman – Fewer than 30 completed undergraduate credits
  • Sophomore – 30 to 59.9 completed undergraduate credits
  • Junior – 60 to 89.9 completed undergraduate credits
  • Senior – 90 or more completed undergraduate credits.

Grade level determines the maximum annual amount eligible students can borrow through the Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan program.
